I gained the ability to learn and adapt quickly to situations and obstacles I face, and be able to act under pressure and stress with confidence and focus on final goal.\n\n<<continuelink>>And you think this experience would be useful to us?<</continuelink>>\n\n- In my opinion this experience is a universal one and I'd be excited to facilitate my years of experience in the gaming industry, which not only is at the peak of my interests, but, I imagine, provides both new and exciting challenges and an extreme satisfaction from the work well done. In the end, the gamers are one of the hardest audiences to be satisfied, but I think, for me, the resulting satisfaction of reading posts or talking to people praising a great game all around the world could hardly be compared to any other success I've experienced so far.\n\nJacek smiles.\n\n- I'd truly love to experience that feeling.\n\n1. - I consider a sales of the largest concrete pump in Europe the biggest success of my company.\n\n<<continuelink>>- This is hardly something to be proud of in terms of project management - you voice your concern.<</continuelink>>\n\n- On the contrary. - Jacek replies. - Of course the sale itself was important. But behind this were lots of planning and preparation. We had to secure a deal with a good service company, prepare for it legally, advertise our company so that it looks professional from the very beginning - our focus was on web and the proffessional press. We had to secure the channel to the factory to enable the sale itself; then after the sales - management of transport, activation, trainings for future operators. Not to mention the possibility of leveraging on this success to enable further growth.\n\n- I'm so proud of this, because it ended up in a huge success. Even though there was a lot of stress, we handled all the aspects above with profficiency. It required great planning skills and even better execution. Not to mention I was doing this on top of my consulting work, which is really time-consuming.\n\n1. [[Choose to listen to a different story.|NormalQ9_Return]]\n2. - My own business could be compared to a large Project I am leading. From managing marketing materials, press releases or web and social media advertising to financial aspects, corporate customer negotiations and overall week to week management, I take care of multiple aspects of the company growth.\n\n<<continuelink>>- How did you come to lead your own company? - you ask curiously.<</continuelink>>\n\n- My father needed more support; he wasn't able to manage the company by himself in a period of great potential growth. It was also a natural step concerning the business and project management experience I gained through my career at Accenture. We agreed that I take over the company and it's management, planning, financials and legal matters. My father could focus on sales, customer relations and day to day operations.\n\n- Since then we managed to establish our own brand in the Polish market; we established a couple of very prospective partnerships; became a sole distributor for ZOOMLION brand in Poland and sold, on top of batching plants and construction machines, the largest concrete pump in Europe.\n\n<<continuelink>>- And how does that fit your application to CD PROJEKT RED?<</continuelink>>\n\nJacek smiles.\n- In fact I took over the company for two reasons: first to help my parents and second - to extend my knowledge and test my business acumen in no-parachute type of scenario.\n\n- And it worked out. But construction business is not something I'm very fond of; in fact nor is the consulting anymore.\n\n<<continuelink>>I see where this is going..<</continuelink>>\n\n- Yeah.. To cut the story short, the more I grow business-wise, the more I understand, how enormous potential the gaming industry has right now. It's the best time to be a gamer. Microsoft and Sony just released next gen consoles, and the numbers show that the audience is definitely there; multiplayer is as alive as ever; studios like Ubisoft or EA start to look more like movie companies, with multimillion dollar Projects..\n\n- I always wanted to be a part of it. Not as a programmer, because I love working with people. Nor as a game tester, because I have an ambition to create and I enjoy challenge that only business provides. And I think with my family company in a place where my dad can take it over again; with my consulting career growth as far as it makes sense to me - it is a perfect time to move ahead and bring real value to a company like CD PROJEKT RED.\n\n- I think my experiences with Handmasz in parallel to consulting job, as well as my passion and love for games, would make me a great and meaningful addition to your Company.\n\n1. When you ask this questions you notice that Jacek becomes a little <<replacelink>>tensed<<becomes>>tensed. You realize he didn't anticipate such a fierce competition<</replacelink>>. After a moment, he smiles.\n\n- I would have to say: my passion for games, experience I gained through number of challenging Projects in different Industries and countries and a personal drive to be part of a company, that I have admired for years. \n\n<<continuelink>>Passion for games - how that would benefit us? We don't hire gamers..<</continuelink>>\n\n- I understand. Yet as a mature gamer, I am always on the lookout for something great, something extraordinary. It also dissapoints me a lot, when Projects that look very promising, go astray for some reasons - this deprives us, gamers, from the incredible experiences that we are often looking forward to with great anticipation. This will make me commited to not only delivering RED's Projects because that's what I do, but also because I want to be part of creating something great - something I also want to enjoy at home when the day is done.\n\n- The other reason is that I know gamer's community. For marketing reasons I think this is especially relevant, as I can create marketing plans with that knowledge in mind - whether it's to evaluate the channel effiency based on the target audience or discuss and evaluate the ups and down of the Project from gamer's perspective - so from the perspective of RED's end users.\n\n<<continuelink>>And what about your experience?<</continuelink>>\n\n- I have a marketing background from both Warsaw School of Economics on Customer Value Management, as well as selected Project experience in Accenture. I actually have a lot of experience in leading successful Projects, not only in relation to marketing area. I was very often put in challenging situations, whether that was a time pressure, new environment or difficult Clients.\n\n- I believe this experience would be very beneficial to Your Company.\n\n<<continuelink>>You say you've admired us for years. Why?<</continuelink>>\n\n- I was a kid when you had a shop in Saska Kępa in Warsaw. I used to go there every couple of days to see what new games were out, play some PC games (I didn't have PC back then) and I always had a great experience talking with guys in that shop. Then you released Baldur's Gate - which was a huge step for Polish translations, and by the way - I've always been a big fan of BG. You are also the only Polish game company that got through the international buzz with a very high quality product - Witcher 1 & 2. This rise to being recognized, achieved by great quality of your products, is something I really admire. Both from business path perspective and as a gamer getting to play great games.\n\n<<continuelink>>Anything else you would like to share before we proceed?<</continuelink>>\n\nJacek's smile widens.\n- On top of all this, I think you will really enjoy working with me.\n\n1. - Through my consulting career I have participated and led a number of different Projects. The Projects' timespan differs from <<replacelink>>couple of weeks<<becomes>>three to eight weeks<</replacelink>> to half a year<</replacelink>>. The challenge lies not only in the time elapsed in relation to the content to be delivered, but also in the fact that the Projects often take place in a completely new environment, new Client - both international and domestic.\n\nJacek smiles proudly.\n\n- So far I have always delivered. I can honestly say that all the Projects I led were successful.\n\n<<continuelink>>Continue to listen to Jacek<</continuelink>>\n\nYou look at Jacek ecouraging him to continue.\n\n- I can often choose the Project I'm involved in, and I always choose the challenging ones; the ones I can learn from - whether it's a new industry, new area of expertise or new nationalities and people to work with. - Jacek continues.\n\n- I think this gives me a perspective on different problems that a Company might face, an ability to look for solutions in new situations, where I not always feel comfortable; when circumstances are complicated or new and unknown to me. I gained the ability to learn and adapt quickly to situations and obstacles I face, and be able to act under pressure and stress with confidence and focus on final goal.\n\n<<continuelink>>Continue to listen to Jacek<</continuelink>>\n\nJacek nods to himself, then continues.\n\n- In my opinion this experience is a universal one and I'd be excited to facilitate my years of experience in the gaming industry, which not only is at the peak of my interests, but, I imagine, provides both new and exciting challenges and an extreme satisfaction from the work well done. But this really makes sense to me, as I believe in adding value with everything that I do in my professional life.\n\n<<continuelink>>Continue to listen to Jacek.<</continuelink>>\n\n- Originally I had a very technical background, since I graduated Warsaw Military School of Technology. Along the way I realized, that I needed responsibility and contact with people, which were pretty hard to get by when all I did was sit in front of my SQL scripts.\n\n- I moved to business, and I think consulting was a good choice, as it allowed me to work in a demanding, international environment, constantly facing new challenges.\n\n- Two years ago I opened my <<replacelink>>own business<<becomes>>own business, which focuses on sales and automation of concrete pumps, batching plants, you name it<</replacelink>>. I wanted to do something else, expand my knowledge even further. A really important factor in this decision became my parents, who asked me for support.\n\n<<continuelink>>Nod your head.<</continuelink>>\n\nYou nod your head with understanding.\n\n- Now this wavy period has ended. Over the years I accumulated a lot of experience and I believe I will be a really valuable asset to Your Company.\n\nJacek stops for a moment, then resumes.\n\n- You know, in the end I just really want to work for CD PROJEKT RED. I wish to contribute to a company that already is widely recognized in the world, and I want to continue building this success together with You. I think now I am ready to be able to help You with that.\n\n1. [[Inquire on Jacek's interest in gaming industry.|NormalQ2_Games]]\n2. [[Ask Jacek how can he contribute to building success of CD PROJEKT RED.|NormalQ2_Contribute]]\n3. [[Return to your list of questions.|NormalQList_Return]]
- Well, I've always loved games. Since I was a kid actually.\n\n- But I never really knew what could my place in the gaming industry be. I used to write books' reviews for Valkyria.com, plus some levels for Arkadia LPMud (years back), but I could never really see myself as a writer.\n\n- I used to <<replacelink>>program <<becomes>>program (Perl, SQL, C++, Delphi, Basic, ...)<</replacelink>> as part of my university work, but I think I've never been really good at it. I definitely prefer to work with people rather then sit in front of a monitor for hours and look at the lines of code. I appreciate the programmers' work a great deal, but it's just not for me.\n\n<<continuelink>>And now you think you have found your place, I presume?<</continuelink>>\n\n- Yes, I believe so. - Jacek agrees - As any one person, I'd be thrilled to do the job that I love, with great people and even greater goal in mind. I believe Project Manager in CD PROJEKT RED would be this kind of job.\n\n<<continuelink>>- Why CD PROJEKT RED though? There are other gaming companies in Poland and abroad..<</continuelink>>\n\n- That's true, but there is no other company I would admire as much. I'm a huge Sapkowski's fanboy - I think I've read all his "Geralt" books like four times each. <<replacelink>>And I'm also an RGP-type of guy. <<becomes>>And I'm also an RGP-type of guy. I used to play Call of Cthulhu or Warhammer as a kid a lot. For a number of years I spent countless hours on Arkadia, a polish Mud, set in Sapkowski's and Warhammer's realities.<</replacelink>> And I think I can imagine how hard it actually is to make a trully unique game. But CD PROJEKT RED managed to do this with Witcher 1. Apart from great gameplay, it managed to capture Sapkowski's books spirit (with my favourite reply to "Co slychac?"). \n\n<<continuelink>>Yeah, thanks - we worked really hard for this success.<</continuelink>>\n\n- What's even more incredible, you improved on this experience in Witcher 2. I loved the story, but what really amazed me, was the fact that after Act 1 you could skip the whole huge chunk of game, depending on the choices you made before. I hadn't realized this until I rerolled my character and couldn't even enter the dwarven stronghold! It was incredible - to create such an enormous part of the game to be seen by only part of the players.. That was when I knew these were the kind of games I wanted to play. And if I could help along the process, it would just make me proud.\n\n<<continuelink>>So why haven't you applied before?<</continuelink>>\n\n- Actually I did. - Jacek laughs. - But I didn't realize back then, how selective you have to be in your recruitment process. I guess to make the best games, you have to have the best people. I didn't put enough attention to the application, and I think there wasn't a position of Project Manager opened either - even Junior one - which I believe would be the best place for me to bring value to your Company.\n\n[[Return to your list of questions.|NormalQList_Return]]
- Back in the day, when I was a kid, I just loved to play games. <<replacelink>>You could ask my mother!<<becomes>> You could ask my mother! She would tell you a story she loves to repeat, how I got lost by the seaside, and no one could find me for hours. And when they actually found me, I was supposedly watching some guys play flippers and some "insert coin" games<</replacelink>> - Jacek laughs.\n\n- But since a couple of years, I became really interested in the gaming industry. And when I started to actually pay attention, it was so amazing to observe behind the scenes of the games I loved!\n\n<<continuelink>>Can you give me some example?<</continuelink>>\n\n- For instance the recent marketing strategy failure for XBOX ONE. How it all played out perfectly for Sony, and how they leveraged on <<replacelink>>Microsoft's mistakes on the PS4 reveal conference. <<becomes>>Microsoft's mistakes on the PS4 reveal conference. I mean, the price is one thing - by the way, I wonder if they could have set the final pricetag after Microsoft's 599$ reveal - I don't think it would be feasible in any other industry. Anyway, the way Sony played the "gamers" card, and how they addressed the negative comments that people all over Internet had towards Microsoft (like always online, DRM, Kinect included, etc..).<</replacelink>>\n\n<<continuelink>>But now Microsoft is strong..<</continuelink>>\n\n- In the end Microsoft addressed all the hickups from the reveal and is now returning with some great exclusive games on top. They were the ones who showed Witcher 3 during their E3's press conference as far as I recall. But the games between these two giants.. they're fascinating.\n\n- Not to mention incredible speed with which indie scene is evolving, the mobile gaming market growth, Sony's struggle with Vita, Nintendo's strategy to keep WII U in the game - I think I could go on forever.\n\n<<continuelink>>Well, we don't have so much time, to be honest.<</continuelink>>\n\n- Right. the bottom line is: I love games, I love the industry, and I'd love to be part of it.\n\n[[Return to your list of questions.|NormalQList_Return]]

Nice to meet you- he says looking at <<replacelink>>you<<becomes>>you (you are an interviewer here. - One of my greatest successes is also related to one of the most challenging Projects I've ever taken part in. - Jacek smiles - I also applied for this one myslef.\n\n- In Accenture I work with international teams on almost all my Projects, but this one was exceptional - I was the only person from Poland, working with teams not only from Europe, but also USA, India and Japan. This was a cost-reduction Program in a Healthcare industry, so a very sensitive subject, no matter how you look at it. \n\n- I was tasked with developing relations with EMEA countries' leads for the countries where our Client was present. My successive target was to implement as many cost-reduction initiatives as possible, while adapting them to local market's situation for maximum effectiveness.\n\n<<continuelink>>Ask Jacek about the challenges.<</continuelink>>\n\nJacek rubs his head and begins to describe..\n- There were many challenges: first was the need to work in a completely new environment - I had never worked in healthcare before, and I had two weeks to become profficient enough to discuss detailed concepts with seasoned experts. Then was the international aspect - my supervisor was from Singapore, Client's Project Lead from Seattle, and because of the area of my responsibility being EMEA, I was never in the same country for two weeks straight. Last but not least, the financial pressure: we had a specific financial target, and would get paid according to how well we met it.\n\n<<continuelink>>So what about the success part?<</continuelink>>\n\n- Right. So I managed to, let's say, "open" five out of the <<replacelink>>eight<<becomes>>eight (Benelux, Nordics, Iberia, UK & Ireland, Italy, Alps, Germany and France)<</replacelink>> areas, that initially were very much against our initatives, in under 3 months of work. This wouldn't be possible if not for the great people I met along the way and their support. Through the Project I learned a lot about cultural differences and how to manage contacts with people with variety of different backgrounds, and it really paid off in the end. I was mentioned by the Client's Program Director as one of the key people who allowed the Program to succeed - in the end we managed to save over 53 mln $ for our Client that fiscal year. My personal gain was the international experience I gathered during this half a year, which I believe I can leverage on every occasion, where there are multi-cultural situations involved.\n\n1.
